Growing up my father had a fish pond in our yard. He loved his Koi fish and everyday when he would come home from work he would immediately go visit his fish and feed them. My sweet memories are of him tapping the rocks and all his fish would swim up to him for food. Before my father passed away from Cancer, he had all his fish moved to the pond at the cemetery where he was going to be buried.
I grew to love them too so when my husband and I moved to the Green Acres 6 years ago I asked him to build me a fish pond. He built me one and around it I put some large rocks that was once the actual rocks my father use to have around his pond. I bought small Koi fish so that I could train them to come to me too when I tapped on the rocks.
The other day the unthinkable happened......"SOMEONE" (and it wasn't me) left the garden hose on in the pond. The Chlorine in the water KILLED ALL MY KOI FISH!! We woke up to finding all 37 of my beloved Koi Fish floating bellied up in the pond.........I was devastated!!
I dropped to my knees at the side of the pond and watched quietly as my husband scooped all my beautiful fish up one by one and put them in a trash can. Once the trash can was filled, I grabbed my cell phone and snapped a picture of the sad very brightly colored sight...Then, HE said it, not me......You are going to post pictures of this on your blog and tell the world how I KILLED YOUR KOI FISH? .........................yep
I am hooking up today with Ms Sally at Smiling Sally's Blog for Blue Monday. I am feeling very blue today .......

Anne~ I am so sorry for you loss. I know how lovely and smart these fish can be. (& expensive). My old neighbor had a beautiful fish pond and her Koi were very important to her. The "Killer" she had to deal with were a couple of very smart crane (which are protected by our state) that would manage to get through her protective wiring and snag a fish or two on occasion. She grew to love my Coonhound, as Riley became the best "guard" dog and would alert Victoria (as well as all neighbors) if those mean ole crane were sneaking around. Victoria, although not able to harm the cranes, was able to run out and shoo them off. She hated for us to move because, well, Riley came with us. Ha ha!
That started as a wonderful story and the memory of your Dad..then it turned sad :(
All those beautiful fish...gone...

Awwwww, so very sad. So sorry about your wonderful fish. They certainly are beautiful. I'm hoping to find all the pets I've loved over the years in heaven when I get there. It wouldn't be heaven for me if they weren't there. Mimi

Oh how sad is this? I too am so sorry to read this post....I also feel bad for your husband...
Aw, Ann... just remember that love means forgiveness. He didn't mean it.
Thanks for sharing your blues.
Happy Blue Monday, Ann.
Oh I am so sorry, I am sure you feel blue. Hopefully you can refill your pond again soon. Hope the week ahead is better for you.
So sorry that happened. (((HUGS))) Nice memories about your Dad. Wishing you better week to come.
awwwww....I hope you've restocked.
Awwwww, I bet your hubs feels terrible. I am so sorry for your loss of the Koi you enjoyed so much. Go right out and get some more!!! Your dad must have been a kind and gentle man.
The pond is beautiful. When we were young we had a small cement pond in our front yard. My grandfather made it and it was a lovely place to sit and read or daydream. Every winter the fish (goldfish) would die and we cleaned and refilled it every summer. I hated cleaning it after the winter but I loved the fish.
Cheer up and remember the good memories of your sweet fish.
Hugs, Jeanne
Sooooooooo sad!
Sorry that happened. I looks like a wonderful pond with beautiful plantings.
Hope that your week gets better!

I would like to inquire about using one of your diner pictures in some work I am doing. I am also sending sympathies about the fish, "someone" in my house did the exact same thing....

Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry for you this happened!!!
I made a grand hill the last time Hubs enlarged my yard for a future water feature. I have an acre of flower gardens and a pool to take care of. Top off the farm and I decided I had more than enough to do. Besides I would want Koi and I fear they would just make sushi for the 'coons and bears.
God bless and have a marvelous day!!!
Oh Anne, I am so sorry this happened to your beloved fish..I have always wanted a pond or a waterfall for my backyard..I live on the marsh and fish would not survive snakes and cranes..plus raccoons around our house..I would love having the sound of a waterfall..thanks for your visit to my place today.... Baba

Love your pond...all of koi were killed last year by a muskrat..we have to start all over. The sad thing is some of them were over 4 years old and huge.
How devastating for you. I hope you will be able to raise and train Koi fish again sometime. Hugs xx
Hi I'm new to your blog and a new follower. I'm truly sorry about your father, it's a devastating loss. I can relate to the immense pain of grief. I was 24 years old when I lost my first husband of just 3 1/2 wonderful years, he was 33 years old and had a sudden major heart attack. This happened only six years ago. I've remarried a year ago, when I thought it was impossible to ever love again. The Lord was my strength and I moved on ... but I know how it feels to go through a long journey of grief. There was anger, loneliness, guilt, confusion, numbness and everything I never thought I'd feel ... there is a light at the end of the tunnel, God is with you and He will give you strength and comfort. The memories will remain. Your father will forever be in your heart, there will be times when you cry in remembering him and that's OK. It's alright to express your emotions and it's also alright to smile and be happy. He would want that for you, to live and go on.
I'm very sorry about your Koi fish. I told my hubby a while back that I'd love to have a Koi fish pond in the garden someday. We're moving to Idaho soon so perhaps we can plan for that dream. I look forward to reading your posts.
Awww... I'm so sorry, Ann!
I am so sorry to hear that. We felt so sad when a fighting fish of ours died, and I couldnt imagine how sad you are feeling right now, seeing ALL those fishes gone :( hugs!
Oh, how sad, Ann. I am so sorry for this.
I came by to tell you how much I've missed you on Pink Saturday. I hope everything else is good with you.
