Charlie the Turtle Has A New Friend

We have the best family pet, a African Spur Tortoise. His name is Charlie and he is about 20-25 years old. He will live over 100 years old, so he is considered a youngster in Tortoise world. He weighs around 40 lbs right now and they tell me he will get between 150 to 200 lbs.! Yipes! They also tell me he will be over 3 feet long! I sure hope I live that long to see this boy mature! He lives and roams in our secured yard which is 3 acres

The other day one of our friends gave me a turtle he found in his yard. To all our surprise, it is also a African Spur Tortoise! Charlie was very interested in his new little friend. The little turtle is exactly 6" long. That will give you an idea how big Charlie is by comparing them in this picture.
We were all standing around watching to see how Charlie would react to his new friend as I was taking pictures. Charlie would follow the little turtle around and change his direction. He was very gentle with the little turtle. At one time he actually turned and started charging us to keep away from the little turtle!

The little turtle is still to small to leave out alone in the yard with Charlie but for right now he lives in a little home we have made for him. Everyday I let the little turtle out to play with Charlie on the grass.

I haven't named the little turtle yet. Any good ideas??

OH how NEAT!!!!! That turtle looks so tiny compared to Charlie. How do you know if it is a boy or girl? I like Lola for a girl.

I wanted to tell you I received my beautiful tags. LOVE them!!! thanks so much! I will be posting about them later this week.♥

Harper likes the name "Harold".

Charley's new friend should be called Farley.
He wouldn't eat the little guy would he? I know nothing about turtles. I know some animals will eat their own kind.
Too cute.

Wow, Charlie is a big guy!. When I was a little girl my sister, brother and I all had a tiny green turtle maybe three inches long, they did not live long and we were all very sad, so Mom wouldn't let us have another turtle (that's my turtle story).
I think its great to have such a big guy around to eat all the bugs and he will enjoy his new little friend in time. Have you had Charlie for 25 years?. I did not know a tortoise live such a long life and grew to be so "BIG". I guess Charlie won't be hiding under any small bushes or trees.
I enjoyed your post today,
Take care,
Elizabeth

Ok Anne, you now have 3 pets that will out live both of you. Have you appointed guardians that are willing to have an honrey bird and two elephant sized turtles? :0)

Look up African words for "little," "cute," or "friend." Name him the one you like best!

Thought it was a stone turtle in the beginning but after looking at the second pictures with the writing I then realized it was a real turtle. You had a very cool pet. How about Angel for the little ones.

What a great post!! I did not know some turtles could live that long! Have you had Charlie his entire life? Charlie must me thrilled to have another turtle companion! Someone already asked if the new turtle is a boy or girl. . . guess that could make a difference in what you name it! :) You probably would want to rule out "Fluffy"! I'm terrible at naming animals. . . but it's always a fun process!

Love your blue turkey photos. . . did you scare him when you started screaming? :) There was a nursing home (on the news) that had been adopted by a gobbler. He hung around and entertained the residents. . . was also very friendly.

Finally, I LOVE the gift tags that you make! The Christmas ones (with Santa) were my fav!! You are such a talent!

Hope all is well with you!!

What awesome pets. I think you should name him either Franklin or tiny Tim. My kids learned a cute poem about a turtle named Tiny Tim when they were kids and now I tell it to my Grandkids whenever we see a turtle.

How about Chip? He looks like a chip off Charlie's shoulder. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a sweet comment on our blog. Have a wonderful day! Twyla
