Barbie Wednesday

Ok anyone that knows me knows how crazy I am over Vintage Barbie Dolls. In my collection I have every Vintage Barbie made from 1959 to 1970 plus just about every one of their clothings! My husband is building me a toy store inside his Vintage Car Museum so that I can display all my dolls and clothings. So, when I found out that Twyla and Lindsey over at Two Crazy Crafters Blog have a thing called Barbie Wednesday, I just about fell off my chair! I am joining them today for Barbie Wednesday!

This here is a #3 Brunette Barbie doll from 1960. The #3 Barbie's are very different from the #1 or #2. They have rounder eyebrows, blue eyes and the eyeliner was changed to make her more softer and fresh faced. This one has brown eye liner on the upper lids only. Her skin tone is very pale because due to a flaw in the type of vinyl used on the first three issues of Barbie, the pink skin tones tends to fade to a sickly white. It gets worse through the years!

They came out with 22 outfits for her that year, she is wearing #982 Solo in the Spotlight. It's a Black glitter gown with bare shoulders and rose corsage on nylon net flounce. It also came with long black tricot gloves, pink scarf, bead necklace, black plastic pumps and a plastic microphone.

She is also wearing something very rare. It's a Genuine Mink Stole! This Mink Stole came out in 1964 and was a Sears Exclusive for Barbie even though it has a tag inside that says Barbie by Mattel! This Mink Stole today is very rare and very hard to find! The original Sears catalog price was $9.99 in 1964. Today it's worth over $3,000!

The things I learn about fellow bloggers. This was something I did not know about you. Wow. I used to play with Barbies when I was young. I have no idea what happened to them. Also my daughter played with them too. Don't know where those went either. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Anne,
I was unaware of the Barbie Wednesday. I have a couple Barbies from the 1960s that my sister and I played with. They're great. BTW, I have awarded you 3 awards, go to http://sundaygirlcrafts.blogspot.com to claim them.

Thank you for participating in Barbie Wednesdays with me! You have such a beautiful #3 doll. I can tell you I about fell off my chair when saw that mink stole!
My favorite book is called "Barbie's Closet" by Patricia Long. It's a price guide from 1998 for vintage Barbie clothes. I have pined over that mink stole in that book! It has it's own page showing it.
I have seen the reproduction Barbie with the signiture pattern dress but not the original and in my Barbie book it shows Skipper's blouse. I would love, love, love to see any pictures that you have. I am sure you have lots of outfits that I have never even heard of before!
I have big dreams to one day have the "Gala Abend" dress!
I hope you join me for Barbie Wednesday again!

It`s amazing that a very small plastic doll can pull such big prices.
I still have some clothes from my barbie days, must rummage to find them and if I do find them I`ll send them to you Ann.
