I thought I would show you something I keep displayed in my Kitchen. This is a Vintage Betty Crocker's Cook Book. My Mom gave it to me. She told me she bought it in 1946. The cover is starting to separate a little because of its age, but the recipes in it are wonderful!
Let's open it, and see some of the wonderful stuff inside!
This cookbook is over 63 years old! Just the thought that my sweet Mom used this book when she was a newlywed just learning how to cook just makes me smile! The cookie recipes in this book are so great that I still use some of them today!
Ooo, I love your cookbook. I have one as well..but alas, mine is a reprint of the original. I like it..I really do, but I had so much rather have the real original. Especially if it was my mothers, it would be so much more special. Happy VTT..have a great day.

Old cook books are SO interesting- I have my Mum's personal cookbook handwritten from the early days of her marriage.Don't know if I can cook from it though!

I featured my mum's old cookbook at Christmas time. What a treasure you have in memories as well as the book. This is the oldest Betty Crocker I've seen.

What a great collector's item you have there. It's almost as old as me...lol...I know you have to treasure it and take care of it.

ReplyDeleteMy mom has a B.C cookbook. It makes awesome food. So I bought one at Cosco when I was first married. I made some cookies out of it and they turned out horrible! I of course thought I did something wrong. Then they had my cookbook on the news and said it was flawed. I felt much better about myself.

Anne, I love your cookbook and the vintage cook books are so fun to use. I have one from the 30's but is not nearly as nice as yours. I love the illustrations. It is a treasure from your mom.

When I got married 27 years ago I bought a Betty Crocker cook book. I use it all the time. My favorites are the yeast rolls and the apple crisp! My book is not as old as yours but I bet some of the recipes are the same(-: That is really special that you are able to have your moms(-:

I have one of those - a much much newer version - that I refer to quite often. It's full of helpful cooking tips taht I guess you're just expected to know automatically.

ReplyDeletemmmmm...cookies. Old recipes are great..if you know all the tricks and code words, etc! I used to try to make candy from an old Betty Cracker cookbook when I was about 10 or 12...I failed! LOL Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteAt least you have a cover. I learned from the jr. and graduated to that one of my mothers. I was abe to find one for myself of new version. and found one a few years ago for daughter. You know 'how to do meat and stuff' is always good to see.
