Today is Blooming Tuesday! Jean at Ms Green Thumb hosts Blooming Tuesday every Tuesday.
We are to show pictures of blooms either in your garden or in a pot! I love participating each week and Jean is a great person and it has been great getting to know her better.
I thought I would show you a picture of a Tropical plant I have blooming today. This plant was here when we moved here. I do not know the name so if any of you know the name, I sure would appreciate it. I tried searching on Google but could not find it.
The plant is over 6 feet tall. It has long green leaves and in January if we get frost, the whole plant needs to be cut down and then it grows back in spring.
The blooms start off with this huge bud in late summer early fall
Then it blooms into this yellow flower. It has a sweet smell and it will attract ants if I am not careful
This is a really cute spinning squirrel I have in my front yard. When the wind hits it, it starts to spin

I like the hibiscus flower ..I prefer red color.

ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so pretty! I see you're in So Calif. I grew up in Irvine and you just reminded me how someone had a pomegranate tree and we (the kids on my street) would try to pick them because we all loved eating them and spitting out the seeds. :)

I use to have the plantain type that took 6 years to bloom and fruit. I only saw one bunch of bananas on one I gave to my neighbor.

'Hot Shot' is a gorgeous bloom. You are so lucky to be grow Pomegranates. They are quite tasty. ;) That unknown plant looks like a banana tree to me too with those large tropical leaves.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what the first pictures are of, but I love the blooms on it! How wonderful to have a pomegranate tree in your yard...I grew up in California and remember eating pomegranates every year. They were such a treat!
ReplyDeleteIf you learn the name of the huge plant, I'd really be interested in knowing it. My daughter has a banana tree that has huge leaves similar to your plant. I love Pomegranates. When my sister-in-law visits from Nevada she always brings some with her. The Pink Hibiscus bloom is lovely.
